In-N-Out isn?t known for revamping its menu very often. Really, the menu hasn?t changed much at all ? burgers, cheeseburgers, double-doubles, fries and drinks from here to eternity. So what?s in it for vegetarians who want to get in on the In-N-Out magic? You can always order a ?grilled cheese sandwich,? which is basically a burger without the patty, but that that?s not always the most filling. An order of animal fries (a secret menu favorite, fries topped with cheese and onions and secret sauce) could also do the trick, but it?s not quite a well-rounded meal on its own. It should also be noted that neither of those two options are fit for vegans. Now, a new petition has formed asking In-N-Out to up their game and put a vegan option on the menu.
The petition, started by Los Angeles resident Ari Solomon, praises In-N-Out for its decision to drop abusive Central Valley Meat as a hamburger supplier and sees that action as a stepping stone for introducing even more cow-friendly fare:
?
In-N-Out did the right thing and said they would no longer buy from this supplier, but it's the 21st century and I think it's high time they offer a veggie burger option for customers who don't want to eat animals or just want a little diversity with an environmentally-friendly, healthier option once in a while.
I know In-N-Out prides itself on being ahead of the other fast food outlets, so how amazing would it be if vegans and vegetarians from students to A-list celebs and everyone in between could go enjoy a burger?
?
As Solomon points out in a related press release, this isn?t about militant veganism or crushing In-N-Out?s current vibe ? it?s just about a real fan wanting to open more people up to the In-N-Out experience: ?
?
"I started my petition on Change.org because In-N-Out used to be one my favorite places in LA,? said Solomon. ?Unfortunately, I haven't eaten there in years because there are no vegan options. I think it would be fantastic if In-N-Out would offer a veggie burger so that vegetarians, vegans and people looking to be healthier and do right by the environment could have a menu option."
?
Solomon already has most of the 5,000 signatures he has requested in the petition. Now the only question is whether In-N-Out responds. Nation?s Restaurant News reports that, while the chain is aware of the petition, it hasn?t yet had sufficient time to consider the request involved. So that?s fair. The site also notes that petitions have received mixed results in the real world. As a burger chain with an ultra-traditional menu ? but that also values its fans and community ? it?s a toss-up whether this particular petition will be fruitful. But you?ll never know unless you try.?
